Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer at Breakthru House, Inc!!!
Volunteers are always needed! Why not offer your free time to help make a difference in someone's life? If you are interested in volunteering at Breakthru House, please fill out the volunteer profile, so that we can get to know you better and find out what you're interested in!

Adopt-a-Room
Make over a room in the house. Redecorate a bedroom, living room, dining room, or bathroom.

Wednesday PM Dinner Party
Cook a nice meal for and with clients in a casual "dinner party" like atmosphere.

Enrichment Group Lead a 1-2 hour class on Wednesday night at around 6pm or Saturday and Sunday afternoons on cooking, nutrition, sing-a-long, movement/dance, acting, communication, or any other topic you are interested in.

  • Job Readiness
    Teach Resumes & Cover Letters, Dress for Success, Interview, etc.
  • Arts and Crafts
    Plan and bring a project of your choice for approximately 15 women.
  • Master Gardner
    Nurture women by sharing your knowledge of vegetable and perennial gardens and teach basic skills to clients
  • Ceramics Studio
    Develop creativity by working with clients making hand built projects or poured ceramics with molds that have been donated, electric kiln is already set up.

Handy Person
Work with our fabulous volunteer handymen to maintain and repair residences and office.

  • House Repairs
    Make minor repairs and/or major renovations.

Administrative Help

  • Tech Support
    Support staff in computer work and aid in development of data bases, website, etc.
  • Public Relations
    Develop outreach materials and/or visit churches, agencies, foundations and businesses to promote Breakthru House.
  • Office Support
    Aid staff in office with administrative tasks like our newsletter mailings, filing, etc.
  • Breakthru Clothing Closet
    Sort and manage clothing and In-Kind donations.
  • Group Projects
    Head up a group activity with 10 to 40 volunteers to accomplish a one day project. Areas of on-going needs are yard work, gardening, painting, and general clean up.

Yard Maintenance

  • Clean yards, rake leaves, trim bushes, plant flowers, lay mulch, and the list goes on! We need yard maintenance workers year round.
  • Mow office and resident staff yards weekly during the Spring and Summer.

Field Trips

  • Take residents to the park for a picnic, to a laser show, to a pool to swim, to Centennial Park to ice skate, bowling, movie, etc.

Open House Host
Donate and prepare food for our monthly open house. Serve as a host for attending guests.

Saturday Morning Grocery Shopping
Pick up clients at Kroger after they have completed weekly grocery shopping and returns them to Breakthru. Takes about an hour.

Reading
Bring your favorite children's books for a session of reading aloud and resting with the clients, kindergarten style!

Speaker's Bureau
Speak to churches, Sunday Schools, and other groups about Breakthru House.

Committee Member
Assist on our Development Committee, Hospitality, or Special Events committees.

  • Special Events
    Help with the planning and implementation of events such as banquets and other fund-raising or recognition celebrations.
  • Hospitality
    Help with meals or finger foods preparation for our Open Houses and special events.
  • Fundraising
    Solicit new contributors, major or planned gifts.
  • Grant-Writing
    Aid the Development Committee in researching, writing, and follow-up of grants to foundations and agencies.

Board Member
Serve on the Board of Directors, lend your expertise to help Breakthru thrive.
