For Clients and Referrals

Thank you for your interest in our program.

The following includes some general admission information and Breakthru House program details. To begin the admission process, please call our clinical line or complete a client application.

  • After a telephone screening, an appointment is made for the prospective client to have an interview with one of the counselors. Clients participate in an assessment interview during which the counselor determines whether we are an appropriate program for the client. During this interview the client can also ask questions to determine whether she is willing and ready to commit to our treatment program. Clients are required to commit to six months to eighteen months at Breakthru House.
  • Because Breakthru is a nonprofit organization, the cost is affordable. The fee is $675.00 per month which covers housing, food, therapy, and transportation. If a client has resources through friends, family, or personal finances, she may set up an account at Breakthru House for weekly allowance. This can be used for personal care items and medication if needed. $30.00 per week is suggested. The first month's funding and allowance must be in place before a client can be admitted. Clients may speak with a Breakthru House counselor for guidance on how to secure this funding. Funding may also be available through the DeKalb Community Service Board and Mercy Care Services of St. Joseph's Health Systems. Limited scholarships through our Founder's Scholarship Fund may also be available for entrance into our program.
  • For women referred to us through any United Methodist Church, there is funding available through the Breakthru House United Methodist Scholarship.
  • The Breakthru House Treatment Model is structured using a level system developed for our program which clients move through as they progress in recovery. Clients usually move from Level I to Level II during their 2nd to 3rd month at Breakthru. Level III can be processed after 6 months of treatment. When a client moves to Level IV she begins to make plans to transition to life outside of treatment or move to the Brown Family House, our transitional house. To find out more about the level system, please click on the link to the Level System.
  • All of our clients participate in the 12 steps of recovery. Clients attend AA, NA, and OA meetings in the Atlanta and Decatur community as a group; and each client must complete 90 meetings in their first 90 days at Breakthru House.
  • The combination of day treatment and evening groups in their first 3 months at Breakthru provides intensive therapy and education that builds a firm foundation of recovery. Upon completion of day-treatment, clients work towards securing a job, enrolling in GED classes, or attending school. They also continue to participate in evening group sessions at Breakthru; individual counseling; and AA, NA, and OA meetings with the community.
